There are few things as unsettling to encounter as rising damp in a property. When Moisture from the ground rises up a wall due to capillary action in masonry material it is called rising damp or salt damp. It causes a number of serious problems including crumbling bricks, disintegrating mortar and of course rooms become unhealthy or impossible to occupy.

Damp on a wall does not necessarily mean rising damp is present as it could be falling damp, lateral or penetrating damp, condensation, saturation or poor sub floor ventilation. Therefore it is imperative that the correct diagnosis is made in order to undertake the correct remedial action.

In effect rising damp is caused by the absence of an effective damp course or bridging of damp course.

One of the ways to resolve a rising damp problem is through the Lectros system otherwise known as Electro Osmotic Damp Proofing and has an excellent track record for resolving rising damp problems in domestic and commercial buildings. In effect the system works by introducing a very small and perfectly safe electric current into the wall just above ground level through a serious of titanium anodes inserted into the brickwork.

Its effect is to repel the rising moisture down the walls into the ground. This ensures the protected walls remain dry and totally free of damp. Installation involves drilling a series of small holes into the masonry just above ground level and inserting tiny titanium anodes are inserted and linked by a connecting wire which is pointed to the wall. It is invisible and disruption is minimal.
